Starlink has decided to halt Subscription Price Hike in Nigeria Amid Regulatory Pushback. In a message to users, Starlink explained that it’s putting the hike on hold to address concerns raised by Nigeria’s Communications Commission (NCC). The company stated its commitment to providing high-speed internet in the country but emphasized that regulatory support is necessary for service improvements.
What Happened?
Recall three weeks ago techmetroo reported Starlink had nearly doubled its standard monthly plan from ₦38,000 ($24) to ₦75,000 ($48), citing inflationary pressures. Roaming fees also saw sharp increases, with regional roaming rising to ₦167,000 and international roaming to ₦717,000, but the NCC had flagged Starlink’s price adjustments, citing non-compliance with local regulations.
Service Adjustments and Customer Credits
As part of the temporary rollback, Starlink is crediting customers who were billed the higher rate. Starlink reiterated its focus on delivering reliable internet services, provided it can work through regulatory challenges to maintain consistent service quality.
